1.1

Today in the lecture we were introduced to the brief and assignment. We looked at student examples and content requirements, which was a clear and easy way to know what was expected of us in this studio, and to visually see what our sort-of end goal is. This was very inspiring and I left the lecture feeling very excited.

In studio time, in small groups we brainstormed possible subject matter that addressed the brief, listing different sets of destinations or activities that fit under the headings of Sports & Recreation, Food & Drink, and Arts & Culture. We then shared these with the whole class by writing all of our ideas on a large whiteboard. This was a useful way of generating ideas and seeing what other people had come up with. It was fascinating to see what was suggested and inspired me to think more outside the box.

We then began to fill out matrix templates (inspired by brainstormed ideas) to examine potential sets of subject matter, taking into account similarities (communication points relevant to all), points of difference, and associative adjectives.

I also attended the blog workshop and set up my process blog.

For independent study I will continue to investigate sets of recreational destinations and activities in matrix form, making sure each of the destinations or activities within the sets offers a different experience or emotive quality.
